Cell Phone – How to Reduce Your Monthly Costs

Last week I posted an article on reducing your monthly TV viewing expenses (cable, satellite bills), this week’s focus is on your Cell Phone and how to reduce your monthly expenses.

When you consider how much you are spending annually just to carry a cell phone around, the annual expense can top $1,000 easily.

The trend actually show the monthly costs dropping by the three major carriers, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. However in my opinion, the three still charge way too much money for their service.

Personally I have used Tracfone for quite some time now; probably close to ten years. My monthly cost is approximately $8 per month and manage to still have remaining minutes, data left over each month which rolls over to the next month and so on.

Interesting fact is that I still am using AT&T network even though my phone is a prepaid with Tracfone, so coverage is the same as if my service was through AT&T.

Tracfone actually uses AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile networks depending on where your location is when you activate your phone.

Customers can purchase a smartphone from the company (reasonable cost) or even port over their existing phone number and use just about any unlocked smartphone they may have purchased in the past including an iPhone.

The major cell carriers do have their own prepaid plans, however I still believe they are way overpriced. I have only used Tracfone service so I cannot comment on any other prepaid plans that might be out there.

You owe it to your wallet, to price compare the various cell phone plans out there and make a switch if you find a better deal.

The only negative feature of a pre-paid is to remember to add additional minutes every 90 days; you can purchase one year cards that will keep your service active for a full year if you wish.

Watch the video below to see how to convert an existing iPhone 4S to Tracfone. The video demonstrates a Verizon network however AT&T GSM will work as well providing you purchase the correct SIM card.
